If you had to see any movie this weekend or for the summer, “Wonder Woman” should be that movie. “Wonder Woman” is the newest addition to the DC Super Heroes movies. The comedy, action, and the role of women in this movie is what many people want to see in a superhero movie.

Diana (Gal Gadot) is a princess that lives her childhood on an island that is occupied only by female warriors. But the peace gets interrupted when a pilot (Chris Pine) crashes there. After Diana rescues him she learns about World War I and that it is destroying the world. From that she promises to try and protect it with her superpowers in order to create peace.

One thing that made me love this movie is how they make the protagonist of the movie a woman. With so much discrimination against women, and with a president who has bragged about abusing women, it feels appropriate to have a strong female lead in a comic book movie. Most blockbuster movies have male leads, save for, ”The Hunger Games,” the series that became an international sensation.. Obviously, audiences want female protagonists.

The movie knows how to use comedy. After princess Diana was able to leave the island with pilot Steve Trevor they sail a boat to London and while there they talk about marriage and situations relating with a couple, Diana makes a comment that she knows about the reproduction process and states that men are not need in order to create pleasure. The movie makes great jokes throughout the movie. If you saw past DC comics movies like “Batman v. Superman” there wasn’t much comedy, which made them bland and one-dimensional. “Wonder Woman” provides more jokes, making it a movie that many people would .

Greek mythology plays a large role in the film.. In the movie characters  frequently mention Zeus, the sky and thunder god and the king of all gods. Diana’s mission is to try to make peace in the world by getting rid of Ares, the god of war, who is causing all the madness of World War 1. Similar movies that focus on Greek mythology are the series of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” Percy is the son of Poseidon the god of the sea and throughout his movies we are able to learn more about the gods of ancient Greece.

I recommend to go see Wonder Woman in theaters now because it is a movie packed with action, comedy, and history that will exceed your expectations of it being a DC Comic movie.
