Throughout the year of 2017 there has been series of back and forth threats and taunts between the President Donald Trump and leader of North Korea Kim Jong-Un. Trump has been reacting to Kim’s speeches on Twitter, causing Kim to rebutle with threats on a nuclear war on nationalized TV.

Ever since Kim Jong-Un took power in 2011 he has been doing annual speeches on new years addressing the people of North Korea. On January 1 2017 Kim said “Research and development of cutting edge arms equipment is actively progressing and ICBM rocket test launch preparation is in its last stage” One year later he said “The United States can never fight a war against me and our state. It should properly know that the whole territory of the U.S. is within the range of our nuclear strike and a nuclear button is always on the desk of my office, and this is just a reality.” Prior to these speeches the country has been under United Nations sanction since 2006 over its nuclear and ballistic missile test.

On January 2 2017 Donald Trump responded to Kim Jong-Un’s speech by tweeting his response North Korea just stated that it is in the final stages of developing a nuclear weapon capable of reaching parts of the U.S. It won’t happen!” This was 18 days before Trump’s inauguration.

Trump responded to Kim Jong-Un’s most recent televised speech as of January 3 2018 tweeting the following “North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the ‘Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.’ Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!”. This recent tweet from the President got the majority of the people all around the nation scared for their lives because of a nuclear war.

US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley had some words also responding to Kim Jong-Un’s speech saying “As we hear reports that North Korea might be preparing for another missile test I hope that does not happen, but if it does we must bring even more measures to bear on the North Korea regime. The civilized world must remain united and vigilant against the rogue states nuclear arsenal. We will never accept a nuclear North Korea.” She went on to say that they will not take the threats seriously.
