Recently in at the end of September, 21 of 2018 Carlos Sanchez-Martin died after getting hit by an SUV while riding electric scooter from Lime at Dupont circle D.C. This is a problem because there are specific rules people need to follow but they don’t follow them. People need to be 16 years or older to have the scooters and they cant use them on the streets unless if there’s bike lanes. However these are rules the government made but they have recommended that people need to use helmets but not alot of people use helmets while riding these scooters. People need to know these rules to stay safe, and these scooters are able to go up to 15 mph.

“I believe people need to ride these responsibly and not as toys”, said Daniel Amarando, a 10th grader at E.L. Haynes High school. Daniel believes these are good ways to get around but people are using these more as  toys because they aren’t being responsible.

“Before people sign up for the app they need to go through a training course”, Daniel also thinks people need to go through a training so that people will be safe and no more accidents like this will happen any more.

By getting people to go through some training course they can use the scooters more responsibly and hopefully there will not be any other fatal scooter crash. And by making people follow the helmet rule, by making it mandatory to wear a helmet when you ride a scooter. With these rules is the person riding has to be 16 or older however there are people that don’t follow that rule and ride it when they aren’t supposed to.

Not following the rules makes both the lives of the scooter riders in danger and also makes the drivers have to be more aware off the people around them just because scooter riders don’t follow the rules.
