“On My Block” is one of the most popular shows for teenagers on Netflix. The new season premieres in 2019 (Not Confirmed). The show “On My Block” is about 4 high school students, Monse Finnie, Ceasar Diaz, Ruby Martinez and Jamal Turner who are dealing with a friend in a gang and trying to get him out, and romance between them. They want Caesar (Diego Tinoco) to get out of his family’s gang because they don’t want him to die.

The group of friends try to get money to move Ceaser away, but don’t find money in time. Around the end of the show, Caesar’s time is ticking and his friends don’t get money in time so Caesar has to take the biggest decision of his life. Caesar has to decide whether he will put his life at risk or other people’s life at risk.

“On My Block is very interesting,” said Richarda Mckinney, a Haynes freshman. “It talks about how real life gangs are and what people go through when family members are in gangs.”

This show can teach other High Schoolers in a way what they can do if certain issues like this come up. I think it can give an example of what teenagers can do in gang situations. In one plot, Jamal (Brett Gray) learned about this treasure chest with money buried away from years ago and he wanted to find it. His friends laughed at him for believing that it was real but at the end he finds it. This can teach you to chase your dreams even if people don’t believe in you.

“The show can’t help people deal with gangs,” said former E.L. Haynes student Cristian Hernandez. “But a lesson we can learn from the show is that even if no one else believes in your dream as long as you work hard at it you can achieve it against all odds.”

“I think there should be a season two, it seems like a good show and very nice” said Mr. Minino, Spanish teacher.

I believe the show can teach and give an example of life and how hard High School can be for any age, any race, any social class, for anybody. It sure helped me have an idea of what High School would be like when it comes to topics like Gangs and Romance. It’s a good show and I think Netflix should come out with Season 2!
