FC Barcelona, last year’s La Liga Champions, are looking to win the cup back-to-back, but that seems to be a few problems for the team. Barcelona won their 25th La Liga title last year under new manager, Ernesto Valverde.

Last year, the team had a rocky start but were able to pick it up over the season and played better in which they won La Copa Del Rey and became La Liga Champions with having four games to spare at the end of the season, having a record of 28-9-1 which is an impressive record to end a difficult season.

This year, FC Barcelona is having problems with players on the team. Rafinha suffered a ligament injury in which he needs surgery and might miss the whole season. Sergi Roberto had with a hamstring rupture and can miss out for three and four weeks this season. Adding to this, Dembele is having problems with his attitude and the staff within the team, Arthur is suffering from an abdominal injury, and Luis Suarez has discomfort in his knee which can leave him out for two weeks. With Barcelona losing some of their key players, their chances of winning La Liga, Copa Del Rey, and Champions League are fading.

Anthony Munguia a Junior at  Haynes said, “I think Barca could pick it up and do better in the season because they are doing very well in the champions league and that’s an even tougher competition.”

Barcelona seem to be having problems with some of the players and are trying their best to fix these problems as soon as possible so the team won’t lose their composure. Barcelona are currently 7-4-2 which isn’t bad but not good either because the teams they have played are really good except for a few but it isn’t the same start as last year.

Barcelona have set a new record of most games unbeaten in the 2017 season with 43 games unbeaten. Even though the favorites to win this year’s La Liga is Barcelona, that does not seem to be the case by what they are showing. Barcelona is currently having one of the worst defenses in the league since 1999. They have conceded more then ten goals this season, and this time last year Barcelona had only conceded five goals.

Barcelona’s last two matches have been pretty horrible with them losing 4-3 against Real Betis and having a draw of 1-1 against Atletico Madrid in which the defence looked really bad. They also have been having problems with the young talent Dembele in the way he is acting but he is trying to prove himself now and is doing whatever he can and he was the reason Barcelona didn’t lose against Atletico Madrid because he scored the late goal coming in as a sub late in the game.

“Barca seem to be playing bad but I still believe we can win La Liga and the Champions League,” said Anthony Aviles, junior at Haynes. “Besides we have the GOAT Messi and we know when things get serious so does he to do whatever to not lose.”

He added, “Also we have Coutinho, Arthur, Busquets, Ousmane Dembele, and one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now Ter-Stegen so I believe we can still win this.”

As Barcelona fans still believe they are able to win La Liga in which they are currently second and are overtaken by Sevilla by 1 point and ahead of Atletico Madrid by 1 point it seems like they have a lot of pressure in them to prove they are the best team in the world with the best player in the world, and they will have to prove that in their next matches.

In the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven, in La Liga against Villarreal, and Cultura Leonessa in La Copa Del Rey to show that they still have it in them and to not count them out this year.
