How can we save the Earth from climate change?

Daniel Amarando, News Writer

Two years ago this Saturday, President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, which was a agreement with all the nations of the United Nations to slow down greenhouse gas emissions and focus more on the climate. And now the Trump administration is doing more to dumb down the science on climate change research.

The discussion of climate change has been around for decades, but the discussion and debate  have been getting more serious recently with President Donald Trump strengthening his attacks on climate research. Donald Trump has been cutting down funding for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and rolling back Obama-Era laws of cutting down carbon emissions. While the rest of the United Nations is trying to slow down climate change, the United States is taking a political stance and is denying to do anything about it. So without much government overlook, how can you help the battle against climate change at home?

The first easy thing to do is unplug all electrical appliances when not in use, even if your computer is off or your not using your light, as long as a appliance is plugged in it will still draw electricity. So if you unplug any appliance that is not in use, you’ll not only save money but also save the environment. This is a free and easy way to combat climate change. With that if you replace all your normal bulbs with LED bulbs, LED bulbs use less electricity and reduce carbon emissions so it’s a simple and practical swap that’ll save you a lot.

Some other simple ways are using less water, because water treatment plants use a lot of energy. Also invest in using recyclable water bottles, so you can constantly reuse them. Plastic bottles are harmful for the environment and can actually kill sea life if dumped into the ocean so try using less plastic bottles and maybe reuse one you already have. Also take shorter showers and don’t let the sink to run for too long when brushing your teeth, washing your hands, and doing the dishes. Invest in water efficient sinks and appliances and not only you’ll save water, but you’ll save a lot of electricity.

So in conclusion, cutting down usage of a lot of things your used to will not only save you money, but also the future of our planet.
