Female Rapper Nicki Minaj announced that she is riding out of the music industry after twelve years. On Thursday, Nicki tweeted that she and her boyfriend, Kenneth Petty, are soon getting married. She also posted on Twitter about her decision and that she will retire so that she can have her family in peace.

“I’ve decided to retire and have my family,” she tweeted. “I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box—cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE.”

Fans were in disbelief, hoping it was a joke.

Just last month, Nicki appeared in Megan Thee Stallion’s hit anthem Hot Girl Summer and has hinted on an upcoming fifth album. Many fans aren’t taking her tweet as serious. The rapper is known to post in present but this announcement was very straight-forward.

Fans reacted differently towards the news. Some wished her a farewell, others implored for her to release a last album, others acted with anger. Fans had a lot to say about her decision. “You better push that pen and breastfeed at the same time,” wrote a user. Another wrote “ About to look up what ‘retire’ hopefully it means dropping an album tomorrow.”

Nicki was known to make her music about sexual appeal in songs such as one of her biggest hits in 2014 “Anaconda” and many more. She first started blowing up in 2007 when she dropped her mixtape “Playtime is Over”

With Nicki stepping down the Rapping train, other female rappers have the chance to — not exactly take her place, but rise on the charts like her. Megan Thee Stallion has become very popular this year, maybe she will be this generation’s queen.

Nicki has influenced and inspired many females as to rapping and writing songs. In the near and far future, female artists will come up and show us what they got. Nicki was just the beginning.
